Steve Roy - Drum Instructor

Steve Roy has a wide range of drumming experience. Beginning with kit, Steve performed and recorded with "The Pluses" and "Skin Grove".
One of his earliest influences was playing Pipe Band Snare, based in the tradition of Scottish drumming. Steve has been playing in this style for over 20 years. Steve has instructed the drum corps for the Keith Highlanders, the Northwest Junior Pipe Band and several others in the greater Seattle area. With his creative an innovative method of writing music, as director of the NWJPB has taken first place in the Northwest region and in 2008 placed 5th in the world at the World Pipe Band Championship in Glasgow Scotland.
Steve has also spent much time focused on writing books of musical scores and practical guides for Pipe Band students of all ages. He has recently published four books and an instructional DVD that are available nationwide.
Above all, Steve has had the opportunity to refine his own playing by studying with Master Drummer John Scullion, who has won the World Solo Championships four times in Glasgow Scotland. Learning from one of the best drummers in the world has given him an edge on his playing and teaching.
In addition to Kit and Scottish Snare, Steve is a remarkable cajon player, and performs with the flamenco community in Seattle. Steve recorded a Latin album "Amanecer" with the group "Luna Nueva". He has been refining his skills with cajon instructors from Spain.
Steve is also skilled in a large variety of hand percussions. Bongos, Timbale, Djembe, are all part of his repertoire. Steve currently performs with the Latin band "Rumba Kings" and Jazz group "Steve Roy Jazz Trio" and uses a large variety of hand percussion instruments with his live performances.
Steve loves to teach all forms of drumming and has been doing so for over 20 years. His innovative style of teaching and strong background in so many different genres of music keep students from all backgrounds successful in any musical style they choose.
